Alkimos Beach fronting the Alkimos development is approximately 2km in length. The beach is located in the City of Wanneroo, some 8.5km from the Yanchep SLSC in the north and 6.5 km from Quinns Mindarie SLSC in the south. For most of its length the beach is backed by a 10m to 20m high foredune with a few blowouts and development occurring behind the beach through to Marmion Avenue. Pleistocene calcarenite reef continues parallel to shore, lowering the waves to less than 1m, maintaining a moderately steep beach face. The beach is sandy, apart from a section of partly exposed beachrock further towards Shorehaven Beach. During times of moderate to high swells there are reef breaks located approximately 1km offshore at Alkimos, including an inner and outer break which generally requires a boat to access.
An access track and parking facilities have been provided at the southern end of the beach.
Alkimos Beach has been identified as the ideal location for a surf lifesaving club based on the risk profile and proposed use by the community. A surf life saving club is highly anticipated in Alkimos Beach due to its ability to act as a social and community hub.
BeachSAFE Activation Zone
Under a three year partnership with Lend Lease, Surf Life Saving WA will be based at Alkimos Beach every weekend and public holiday (excluding Christmas day) during the Summer school holidays, offering a BeachSAFE zone for all beachgoers.
The SLSWA team will be offering supervision, water safety education and select equipment for trialling water activities. The zone will be manned by two qualified water safety personnel and one designated Community Program Instructor.
The BeachSAFE Zone runs from Dec 19, 2015 to 31 Jan, 2016.
