Back Beach was the main recreational beach on the island. It is accessible by a winding overgrown vehicle track that leaves the northern end of the landing ground. The intertidal beach is located in a west-facing 500 m wide bay surrounded by 60-150 m high slopes. The main beach (K 247) faces west, is 200 m long and fronted by 200 m of sand flats, then another 200 m of reef flats. It is separated from its neighbour (K 248) by a 50 m strip of low sandstone rocks.
