Beach Q 37 commences on the northern side of the Smithburne River at Point Austin and trends north for 9.6 km past the slight curvature at Bold Point (Fig. 6.9) to Point Burrowes at Van Diemen Inlet. There is vehicle access to fishing camps on the banks of the tidal creeks at both ends of the beach. The beach has extensive tidal shoals off each boundary inlet, with 300 m wide ridged sand flats along most of the beach, backed by low casuarina-topped foredunes. The beach is part of a series of some 20 elongate recurved spits that narrow to the north and have migrated southward, in the process deflecting the river mouth southward.
Beach Length: 9.6km
General Hazard Rating: 2/10
